Home Sweet Home

Drew came home from the hospital on Monday night. Aubrey and I are very excited to have him home. Drew has to lay on an incline in order to avoid back pain so we got him a hospital bed and Aubrey decorated it with Christmas decorations. She was so excited to show him when he got home and you could tell she really missed him. Drew started chemo on Monday and has also had radiation each day. The radiation is working and the spot on his back continues to shrink, which is fantastic news. The chemo is no fun and Drew hasn't been feeling well at all. He is on oral chemo right now so he takes 2 pills twice a day and within minutes of taking the pill he starts to have nausea and flu like symptoms. He has a break this weekend, no chemo or radiation, and then back on both for one more week. Hopefully he can get some relief this weekend and enjoy himself a bit. He will start on a different chemo regimen probably the first week of December and we are hopefully that he will only have side effects a few days out of a 2 week period as opposed to feeling bad like he is now for almost 2 weeks straight. Right now it seems like he has a few bad hours, a few good hours, few bad ones, and then a few good ones each day. He is very up and down but the pain seems to be under control and that was the main concern before.

We are looking forward to Thanksgiving and the new baby who will be here in about 3 weeks. We always get a Christmas tree and hang up our Christmas decorations the weekend of Thanksgiving so that should be fun as well. Aubrey is already super excited for Christmas. We are hoping to get through this rough patch and that the new chemo regimen will bring Drew some relief. As always, we are hoping for the best and trying to stay as positive as possible.

  1. Can't believe all that he has been through. You always have that positive attitude. You both are very strong. I continue to pray for you all. I just wish his pain would go away.
