Drew had his second bile duct procedure today. We went into it expecting that it was going to be an outpatient procedure and that they were going to try and internalize his catheters. We were wrong and very frustrated this morning to say the least. The interventional radiologist said today they were just trying to get the one tube all the way down to the bowel because last time they were not able to do so. He was not sure they would be able to and if not Drew would have tubes permanently, if they could get through, they would try to internalize the tubing in 2 weeks. We were then told he would be spending the night.
We were both extremely frustrated and disappointed as this was not what we were expecting. The doc also made it sound like he didn't think he could get all the way into the bowel so I was very worried. We are very happy to report that the procedure worked! Such wonderful news to hear and gives us some much needed hope right now. Drew was done with the procedure at about 10:30 this morning and ended up sleeping all day until about 4:00. He woke up in some pain but is happy that they will be able to internalize everything soon. I am still very worried about Drew's pain, he has been in a lot lately, and he still has to deal with these tubes for the next 2 weeks but at least this will give us something to look forward to.
I left him this afternoon at about 5:00 when his mom got there and my Dad was also going to visit tonight. As soon as I got home to Aubrey she wanted to make Daddy a card. Tomorrow we are going to the party store and we are going to decorate his couch (unfortunately he didn't leave it much over the last 2 weeks) like a pirate ship to surprise Drew. Aubrey and Drew play a pretend game where they use our bed as pirate ship, Aubrey absolutely loves it. She always asks if Daddy's belly is better so they can play pirate ship. I'm sure Aubrey will have fun decorating the pirate ship couch and hopefully it will bring a smile to Drew's face.
